Tuesday, October 26, 2004
After having launched six months ago the first mobile telephone with video conference in Portugal by TMN, the operator’s 3G coverage covers 13 of the largest cities in the country and 3G roaming in six European countries.
Following the Regions of Lisbon and Oporto, TMN has extended its 3G coverage to the remaining Euro2004 host cities: Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Guimarães, Leiria, Loulé e Faro. These were then followed by Funchal, Ponta Delgada and most recently Beja and Setúbal.
New Roaming Agreement with Sonera
After having celebrated a new 3G roaming agreement with the operator Sonera in Finland, TMN has increased to six the number of countries (Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, UK and now Finland) in which its clients can use 3G services while in Europe. Video conference is available in all countries with the exception of Finland where the operator does not yet have this service available.
3G Pioneering
Note that in April 2004, TMN was the first Portuguese operator and one of the first in Europe to launch a 3rd Generation mobile telephone. One month later, it launched the first video answering service followed by Videomail which was a pioneer service that allowed any videocall user to leave a video message in the mail box of the person whom he or she tried to videocall but obtained no answer.
In order to stimulate the use of the 3rd Generation technology, TMN has already launched into the market various i9 3G terminals including Samsung Z 105, Sony Ericsson Z1010, Siemens U15 and Nokia 7600, and the 3G Access Board PCMCIA - Novatel Merlin U530, which are all available in stores and authorised TMN agents.
