New Braille editions at your finger tips.
Thursday, January 27, 2005

The North and Lisbon area now have a new Braille edition.

New edition Braille telephone lists have just been launched in the North and Lisbon areas. This product is based on a protocol which produces Braille telephone lists for the blind and visually impaired which was signed in 2003 by PT Comunicações, Páginas Amarelas SA and ACAPO – Portuguese Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

With the creation of the Portugal Telecom Foundation, the coordination of this protocol is now under its responsibility.

With these two new editions, the total number of telephone lists aimed towards the blind and visually impaired has reached 5 edited lists, with a total of 3 250 copies distributed free of charge to their users.

These lists are completely produced in Braille print and contain the same type of information covered in tradition telephone lists, namely public use information, emergency contacts and telephone lines for advice and support in various social areas. Taking into consideration the needs of these users, the Braille telephone lists also contain data that directly meets the needs of blind and visually impaired citizens.

According to ACAPO, this partnership has had a positive result on the blind and visually impaired community giving them the possibility of having access to information which in turn enlightens their daily routine.
