Today, the 19th of May, the PT Group quadruples, to all their clients, free of charge and in a completely automatic manner, the access width to ADSL and Cable Internet, from 512k to 2Mb and from 1Mb to 4Mb. A new step towards the massification of broadband and the promotion on the information society.
The massification of broadband internet access and the promotion of the knowledge and information of the population was one of the commitments assumed by Portugal Telecom. With this, the company, will as of today (19th of May), quadruple to all their clients, free of charge and in a completely automatic manner, the access width to ADSL and Cable Internet.
Therefore, clients with a 512k access will now have 2Mb, while clients with a 1Mb access will benefit from a 4Mb speed access.
Portugal Telecom’s commercial offer of 8Mb is also available on the market as of today. Portugal Telecom believes that this measure will privilege the interest of their clients, promote the information society to the entire Portuguese population as well as facilitate access to new information technologies.
The Portugal Telecom group has 750 thousand broadband Internet clients and hopes to, by the end of 2005, have reached the 1-million client mark. In order to achieve this, they are permanently focused on the innovation and quality of their products.
The coverage for PT’s broadband network has already reached 96% of fixed telephone line clients, and an investment of 325 million euros is predicted this year to reinforce the coverage (copper and Cable network) so as to enable all Portuguese people to have access.
