The Government and PT Compras sign a protocol
Thursday, January 13, 2005

PT Compras was created in June of 2003 due to the importance in purchasing goods and services for the entire PT Group. The role that this company took on in the PT Group led to the signing of a protocol which allows the Government to use the know-how obtained by PT Compras until now.

The Purchasing Portal was officially presented by the Government, in a ceremony which served to inform on the current state of play as pertains the implementation of the National Electronic Purchasing Programme. The large audience who attended this ceremony which took place at the Lisbon Congress Centre heard the report given by the leaders of the eight projects that have started the generalisation phase of electronic purchasing for all organisms and categories of goods and services.
As PT Compras is one of the companies with the most know-how in this area, it too was present at this launch.
With this, the Government and PT Compras, represented by the Director Francisco Horta Machado, signed a protocol which aims at promoting the disclosure of purchasing practises and the electronic commerce in the environment of the objectives of the National Electronic Purchasing Programme.

PT Compras
Goods and services purchased by the PT Group are organised in PT Compras in four main groups, Telecommunication Systems, Information Systems, Market Products and Services, and Marketing and Advertising.
Even though PT Compras is a recent company, it has already allowed for a saving of around Euro 160 million through the separation of responsibilities amongst those who order, negotiate and pay. This separation is not new to specialisation and professionalism which is needed in the activity of negotiating in the market place. It is also included in the environment of purchasing goods and services, active and onerous services for the Portugal Telecom Group, as well as the alienating of goods that are not commercialised by the Group and products and services that are not part of the core business.
This project was taken on as being a centre point in the company’s strategy. PT Compras which was founded in 2003, has already contributed to a total saving in the Portugal Telecom Group of Euro 160 million. Considering the fact that purchasing was carried out in a decentralised manner, the concentration of purchasing for the Group within the new company, has allowed an attack on costs based on the separation of responsibilities amongst those who order, negotiate and pay.
