21st century Police Station Friday, March 10, 2006
The Estoril Police Station was chosen to be the first 21st-century police station.  A programme supplied by Portugal Telecom which will allow it to become an example of information technology and will improve the service rendered to the community.

The 21st-century Police Station was inaugurated during the commemorations of the 139th anniversary of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command.

The Estoril police station was chosen to be the first police station with information technology, integrated in a project conceived and organised by the Portugal telecom Group.  This project involved 6 companies of the Group, namely PT Prime, PT Comunicações, PT Sistemas de Informação, PT Inovação, PT Corporate and TMN.  It invested over Euro 200 thousand and counted with the co-operation of 30 people and the Lisbon metropolitan command.

Since January 2006 the Estoril police station has been in a trial phase and until now the results have been rather positive for the community and for the agents.

Oliveira Pereira, the commander responsible for the Public Safety Police Metroplitan Command, assures that “everything will be different in this police station. We are still in a trial phase but things have been much easier when compared to the situation in other police stations”.

According to Carlos Alves Duarte, Chairman of PT Corporate, “this project helps to simplify the daily work of the Estoril police agents, offering them greater qualification and new responsibilities.  Featuring a network that integrates an internal portal, a multimedia kiosk, corporate TV, videovigilence, videoconference and continuous training, daily work here will be facilitated”, he concluded.

Nuno Dias, manager of special projects at PT Prime assures that in addition to improve the service rendered to the community this initiative will above all facilitate the work of the agents.
In the portal www.psp/esquadrasecxxi citizens have direct access to all information and the services of the police station.  A simple tool that allows quick and direct contact with the Estoril police station.  One amongst many of the very useful tools.

Oliveira Pereira, commander responsible for the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Safety Police and António Costa, Minister of Home Affairs.

The inauguration was made official by the Minister of Home Affairs, who praised the Portugal Telecom initiative and “hope to use this model for the future of the Public Safety Police, which is something that will be analysed with this model”, says António Costa.
A PT initiative that contributes towards the development of the Information Society in the country, as well as towards the well being of the whole population.
