A PT Comunicações Communiqué:
- PTC maintains confidentiality of all client data, and only provides a detailed invoice when requested by a judicial authority, in accordance with the law.
– The information provided is related to data of the detailed invoice and not related to tapping. The detailed invoice indicates the numbers dialled, the date, the duration of the call, the hour and the cost.
– The situation referred to in the news pertains to a request made in April 2003. The requested information complies with the confidentiality requisites as it does not mention the name of the client – there is no crossing of the name of the client and the number.
– In the above mentioned request it was clearly solicited by the Court that the information was to be delivered in an electronic file, leading to a change in the proceedings adopted to date – on paper.
– Following a preliminary inquiry, PT verified that the information was rendered in relation to the requested numbers, and that the remaining data pertaining to other numbers of the same client, whose identity is always unknown by the services, was concealed by a computer filter. The computer system generates the information grouped by client and not by the number of the network line. This information was delivered to the Court of Criminal Appeals in June 2003.
- With the objective of preserving the confidentiality of the clients’ data, PTC is regularly audited with the support of security experts.
