''Digital Gardens'' start off with PT Wi-Fi
Thursday, November 02, 2006
The pilot project “Digital Gardens”, which counts on the partnership with PT Wi-Fi, was officially presented to the public at the Amália Rodrigues Garden in Lisbon. Carmona Rodrigues, Mayor of the Lisbon Town Council, did the inauguration honours of this municipal initiative

This Project, which hopes to provide free and wireless access to the Internet in the main gardens in Lisbon is “innovative for the city which is expected to be open and competitive. We need to know how to live in a world which is more and more digital”, as was stated by Carmona Rodrigues.

In the words of Carmona Rodrigues,
"the digital gardens are modern
spaces which favour communication"

As it is still in an implementation study phase, the “Digital Gardens” will be operational between October 2006 and June 2007. From then on, the municipality will already be in the possession of the necessary elements to make this a definite project.

The Mayor of the Lisbon Town Council also added that “this measure contributes to the enlivening of public spaces, not only within a leisurely context but also within a working context”. For this, the municipality places all of its trust in the three telecommunications partners which guarantee the service: PT Wi-Fi, Broadnet Portugal and Radiomóvel Comunicações (ZAPP).

"It would be an embarrassment if
PT did not participate in this
Project”. Commercial Diretor of
PT Wi-Fi, João Henriques

João Henriques, Commercial Director of the Portugal Telecom Group company guaranteed éPT! That “there were two main reasons which lead PT Wi-Fi to compete in the participation of this pilot project. First, the fact that the company is leader in the distribution of wireless internet on a National level. And secondly, the great visibility that this initiative involves, specially as we’re dealing with the city of Lisbon”.

In spite of the cloudy day, many were those who tested the service. Jorge Pereira, a professional illustrator believes this initiative to be “an excellent idea, much better than having to access the Internet from a closed space. I love gardens”. In a clear invitation to enjoy the green spaces of the capital, this project is a bet which has been one by PT Wi-Fi.
