SAPO reinforces bet on digital music
Thursday, May 24, 2007

SAPO established a partnership with MusicaOnline that reinforces its commitment of disclosing and supporting Portuguese music by supplying a catalogue of Portuguese titles in digital format

The SAPO portal reformulated its Sales offer of music (http://musicaonline.sapo.pt/) by establishing a partnership with MusicaOnline. Through this initiative, SAPO increases the offer to 4,1 million titles of over 150 thousand artists.

The best of Portugal on the Portugality of its contents is rather clear through this new offer, because MusicaOnline hold the rights of most of the music catalogue rendered available in digital format. Currently, it already has over 5 thousand titles, and in the near future will present a new offer with over 12 thousand. This bet can already be felt in the top 10 of downloads with Wraygunn in first place and Da Weasel in 4th and 9th places, leaving behind names like Christina Aguillera or Mika.

In order to make legal downloads of music, the users of the SAPO music services can now choose to use their credit card or visa electron. Alternatively, the can choose vouchers of 5 euros each available at BP petrol stations. The users can acquire only the songs they like most and don’t need to buy the whole album. With songs at 0,79 euros they can select their favourite songs.

To download the songs there is no need to download a specific programme in addition to the one that was set up at the beginning. Another advantage of the service is that if for some reason you loose songs you can recover them free of charge.

SAPO Música was the first on-line music store of digital music to perform within the Portuguese market.  It was launched in October 2004 and today it registers more than half a million pageviews and 50 thousand unique visitors, featuring in the first four months of 2007 an increase of 40% in the number of downloads and 200% in full streams in comparison to equal period last year.
