Benfica TV broadcast on Meo and SAPO

The first Benfica TV broadcast was a success. 50% of all meo customers tuned the channel and watched the Benfica – Napoli match in exclusive. On the internet, the Sapo portal attained a new record as 69,000 people accessed the Virtual Stadium simultaneously: the largest audience ever on the internet in Portugal
50% of all meo customers said that they watched the Benfica – Napoli match and 30% watched the previous broadcast that consisted of studio interviews and reportages outdoors. For those unable to watch the match on Benfica TV on meo, the alternative was to watch the game via Sapo portal that carried out the complete transmission of Benfica TV’s broadcast.
In a study carried out by QMetrics/QData on meo IPTV and Satellite customers after the match, 94% thought that this channel adds value to meo service, classified the sound and image quality with 4.3 points and the content broadcast before the game with 4.1 points, on a scale of 1-5.
On television in Portugal, the Benfica – Napoli match was a cost-free exclusive, broadcast to every meo customer (IPTV or Satellite) on position 30 of the grid, in a special Benfica TV broadcast, whose launch is scheduled for November, exclusively on meo.
On Benfica TV, via meo, or in portal Sapo’s Virtual Stadium, fans could watch a thrilling Benfica – Napoli match, having Benfica’s victory represented its moving forward to the next UEFA Cup phase.
Largest audience ever in Portugal via internet on SAPO
69,000 people were present in portal SAPO’s Virtual Stadium (http://estadiovirtual.sapo.pt/) to watch the Benfica – Napoli match. This was the live broadcast with the largest audience ever in Portugal, having traffic on the video platform increased by 1,200% compared to a normal day. Excluding Portugal, accesses from Switzerland originated most traffic (followed by the UK and Germany).
It should be remembered that this live television broadcast was done exclusively on meo and on the internet, exclusively on SAPO portal. In SAPO’s Virtual Stadium, club fans and football lovers from Portugal, Switzerland, Germany, Luxemburg, Liechtenstein, Venezuela, UK, Spain, East Timor and other Portuguese-speaking countries could watch the match.
Internet surfers who accessed http://estadiovirtual.sapo.pt/ could watch the match live and view the most important moves on video, photo and text. It was also possible to stop the reception of the match, view the move that interested them most, and resume the reception again.
