Sci Fi: The best of science fiction on Meo

Meo and NBC Global Networks will launch new Sci Fi channel on next 6 December. Portuguese viewers will start watching the best in Science Fiction by means of several television series and movies, at position 65 of Meo’s grid. Up to year-end, Sci Fi channel can be viewed by every Meo IPTV or Satellite customer, later becoming part of thematic packages

Imagination lies with Sci Fi channel. Dedicated to science fiction, fantasy and paranormal, it presents a varied quality programming and is divided into fantastic epics and super-hero adventures as well as futuristic dramas. This is the new channel, available on Meo as of next 6 December.

Launched by Meo and NBC Global Networks, Sci Fi channel will transmit television serials and blockbuster movies, including box office hits such as Flash Gordon and Painkiller Jane, and programs broadcast for the first time in Portugal. During prime time, serials such as Mutant X, Andromeda, Surface and cult serials such as American Gothic will be broadcast. Every Friday, viewers will be able to watch a double premiere of science fiction movies.

The new channel will bring the best of science fiction to Portuguese spectators, always at position 65 of Meo’s channel grid. Every Meo IPTV and satellite customer will be able to see this channel cost-free up to the end of 2008. As of this date this channel will be part of the offering of thematic packages of this PT’s service.

According to Vera Pinto Pereira, TV Product Manager, PT, “Sci Fi channel has the quality that we are used to see in a product from NBC and fulfils a strategy of provision of successful quality content, which will continue to consolidate Meo’s channel offering with differentiating content”.

Still talking about the launch of this channel, Roma Khanna, president of Global Networks & Digital Initiatives stated that “we are quite thrilled with the launch of one of our most popular and strong channels, in a market as important as Portugal”.

The new channel will have a Portuguese website (http://www.scifi.pt/), and a video channel on Youtube (youtube.com/scifipt), to allow first-hand access to Sci Fi’s programming information for Portuguese viewers.

Originally launched in 1992 in USA, Sci Fi channel ranks fourth in the major subscription television networks for viewers aged between 25 and 54 years. This channel is currently broadcasting to 30 countries in the world.
