Kazoo is the name of the first mobile service of social nature in Portugal. Launched by TMN in partnership with Kazoo Generation, this new solution will forward 5% of top-ups made by customers in the Kazoo card to a social institution. The customer decides which institution will receive the sums collected
Have you ever imagined being able to improve something that you believe in whenever you make a call or send a text from your mobile phone? Now you can. TMN presented Kazoo, the first mobile communications solution in Portugal aiming to support communities of social nature.

Ricardo Vieira and Carina Oliveira, from project Kazoo | PT’s mobile operator has associated itself with Kazoo Generation, launching this innovative and pioneer service in Portugal. Through the Kazoo card, users direct 5% of top-ups to a social institution of their choice, among the set of entities with which protocols have been established.
At this moment, a large number of social communities are associated with project Kazoo: ACAPO, Ajuda de Berço, Ajuda de Mãe, Aldeias de Crianças SOS, AMI, Amnistia Internacional Portugal; Casa Índigo, Comunidade Vida e Paz, Entreajuda, Fundação PT, Fundação do Gil, Liga dos Bombeiros, Associação CAIS, Fundação ‘O Século’, Liga Portuguesa Contra a Sida, Quercus and União Zoófila. In order to facilitate subscription, institutions are grouped by area of activity. After the choice of the cause and entity, the user will only need to fill in his personal data as well as his Kazoo mobile number. It should be highlighted that Kazoo provides an online tool (www.kazoo.pt) for the creation of new communities by any social entity or cause.

During the presentation of the new service several representatives from entities associated with Kazoo were also present. | In order to purchase a Kazoo rechargeable card, the customer needs only to call 707 96 80 80, access http://www.kazoo.pt/ where it is possible to select the desired entity or go to Fnac. Kazoo makes sure that when the user tops up his mobile card, the selected entity receives 5% of that value. This is an original way for the user to support the causes that he identifies himself with, without changing his habits in terms of mobile phone use and at no extra cost.
Kazoo’s mobile service includes the same services as TMN’s through brand UZO, like other co-brands such as Benfica Telecom and Dragão Mobile. It also features an advantageous tariff within the Kazoo network, from 0.05 up to 0.10 cents for voice, 0.25 cents for texts, 0.386 for MMS. The prices for voice communication to other networks start from 0.125 up to 0.25 cents (VAT included).

| We Figga sing the song of the campaign. | The Kazoo pay-as-you-go card can be purchased for 10 Euro, containing 10 Euro in terms of airtime (5 Euro initially plus 5 Euro at the time of the first top-up). After activation, there is also a 10% bonus on top of the value topped up over a 6-month period. This card allows the user to keep his current phone number.
“We have enthusiastically supported the Kazoo concept, from the first moment of its presentation”, said José Carlos Baldino, Board Member, PT, during the rollout of new service, which took place at TMN’s Conference Centre. This support came about for two reasons: because it is “a really ingenious project” and because “the support for projects of social nature is in our DNA. In what regards PT, this project will be a great success to which we will give our best”, he stressed.
“Kazoo is more than a project. It means being present in society”. TMN has “helped with the growth” of this initiative, said Ricardo Oliveira, one of Kazoo’s managers. It is a broad-sighted project, added Rodrigo Santos, director of ACAPO Association, one of the entities associated with this project.
“O tempo” from band We Figga is Kazoo’s presentation tune, which was made known during the rollout of this innovative solution in Portugal.
