10 finalists of the Portugal Telecom Literature Award announced

The names of the 10 finalists of the seventh edition of the Portugal Telecom Literature Prize in Portuguese language were announced yesterday, 16 September, in São Paulo, Brazil.

Portuguese writers António Lobo Antunes, Gonçalo M. Tavares, José Luís Peixoto and Inês Pedrosa are included among the finalists of the Portugal Telecom Literature Prize in Portuguese Language.

The list of 10 finalists and the final jury were announced yesterday in São Paulo (Brazil), having been selected by a jury composed of eleven members and four curators. The announcement of the ten works was made in the presence of the General Consul of Portugal in São Paulo, Guilherme Queiroz de Ataíde, the chairman of Portugal Telecom Brazil, Shakhaf Wine, writers, editors, booksellers and teachers. Three works, the winners of the seventh edition of this major award, will be selected from this list to be announced on 10 November, also in São Paulo.

For Portugal Telecom, this Literature Award is an homage to contemporaneous literary creation, aiming to contribute to keeping the Portuguese language dynamic and relevant.

It is worth recollecting that, together with the Jabuti Prize, the Portugal Telecom Literature Prize is one of the major literary prizes in Brazil in terms of recognition by the literary community. The prize is awarded to the best three books originally written in Portuguese language published in Brazil and covers novel, tale, poetry, chronicle, dramaturgy, biography or autobiography.
