PT’s CEO was one of the main speakers of the “Status of the Nation” |
PT’s chief executive was one of the main intervenients of the debate that closed this year’s edition of the Communications Congress promoted by APDC (Association for the Development of Communications).
Several leaders of the Portuguese communications industry were present at the traditional “Status of the Nation” debate, sharing their vision on the big challenges and opportunities for the future. “How is tomorrow being built?” What is their vision of New Generation Networks and of their role in economy and society? What are the big unknowns and certainties?”, these were a few of the issues on debate.
Zeinal Bava spoke about the investments made by pela PT, the partnerships established at international level and the bet on the MEO service and on optical fibre. Ângelo Paupério (Sonae), António Coimbra (Vodafone Portugal), Estanislau Costa (CTT), Rodrigo Costa (Zon), Xavier Rodríguez-Martín (Oni Communications) and Diogo Vasconcelos (APDC moderator) were also present at the debate.

“Our response to the crisis was to invest more”, stressed PT’s CEO. Consumer needs and habits are changing and companies and companies will have to be more agile and flexible. The borders that characterise our sector are vanishing”. PT’s investment on fibre-optic solutions represents a long-term investment that will enable the delivery of new services to customers. As Mr Bava underlines, “The fibre optics project will enable the Portuguese to enjoy a unique experience in the world”.
Passing to PT’s investment in international markets, Zeinal Bava explained that “we really want to affirm PT as an independent enterprise project”. Brazil is a priority as it provides unmatched “growth opportunities”. PT’s CEO states that PT’s relationship with Telefónica is quite “constructive” as “we are working in partnership” and “the success of this good cooperation is demonstrated by the results”.
“The Turning Point” was the motto of the Communications Congress ’09 as there were more than 60 national and international speakers on 18 and 19 November for a reflection on present and future of the telecommunications industry.
In the year of commemoration of its 25 years of existence, APDC afforded a unique space for reflection on the revolution caused by Information and Communication Technologies. This was an initiative sponsored by Portugal Telecom.
