Thursday, November 19, 2009
AMI’s medical team sponsored by Portugal Telecom is already on São Nicolau island in order to help in the prevention of the dengue epidemic.

Portugal Telecom sponsors an emergency medical team constituted by AMI - International Medical Aid - to work on the field with all the necessary equipment to control the dengue epidemic that continues to haunt Cape Verde, and to promote its prevention.

By indication of Cape Verde’s Ministry of Health, the medical team is already on the island of Cape Verde where the first cases of dengue have been detected in the Barlavento (Winward) area. This team, composed of a medical doctor, a nurse and Public Health specialist in analyses and diagnosis, is equipped with medication and means for lab analyses for a period of two months so as to help combat the propagation of the dengue virus.

PT and AMI reinforce in this way the necessary human and clinical resources to enable the treatment of the symptoms and the follow-up of the patients, mitigate the consequences of the outbreak of the disease and contribute to stopping the propagation of the virus among Cape Verde’s population.
