Friday, November 27, 2009
Campo Pequeno hall was the chosen venue for the Sapo Village Fair. Agencies and advertisers took a ride and embarked on the merry-go-round of the Sapo Awards 2009.

This was the 9th edition of the Sapo Awards that year after year have honoured the best campaigns, advertisers and agencies that invested in the Portuguese online advertising market, and this year in the Angolan and Cape Verdean markets as well.

José Pedro Vasconcelos presented the show that honoured 32 advertisers and 21 agencies. From the 423 applications, ten got Gold in the Sector Awards, three won in the Special Award categories, two in the Mobile Award category and two in the IPTV Award category.

It was a very special evening for Sapo. Abílio Martins, Board Member, PT, thanked everyone for their presence at the event, “a party that celebrates the growth and the success of this sector”. According to Mr. Martins, the success of the Sapo Awards is quite visible through the number of applications “that grows year after year in step with the growth of the market, contents and audiences”.

In the categories introduced for the first time this year, the Best Social Media Campaign Award was conferred to Nestlé’s ‘A few minutes without men’, and the Best Relational Marketing Program Award went to Mars Portugal’s ‘Petnet Marriages’ campaign.

There are also new categories relative to works from Angola and Cape Verde. The Sapo Cape Verde Grand Prize was awarded to Banco Interatlântico’s ‘10th Anniversary BI’ campaign. As to Angola, there were two Sapo Angola Grand Prizes awarded to Movicel’s ‘Movinet – Movicel Mobile Internet’ and Unitel’s ‘Five Star Pastime’ campaigns.

The Sapo Users Grand Prize went to ‘Embark on the Freedom of TAP Air Portugal’ campaign and the Sapo Jury Grand Prize went to the ‘Icons’ campaign conceived by agency Ogilvy for their customer Ford Lusitana SA (that also received the Automobile Sector Award).

The Jury also conferred the Recognition Awards: Ogilvy received the Agency of the Year Award, Mars Portugal received the Advertiser of the Year Award and OMG Digital the Media Agency of the Year Award.

Taking into consideration the high quality of the works in competition, the Jury decided to confer another award – the Creativity Grand Prize – to ‘The first world wide site where nothing happens’ campaign conceived by agency JWT for their customer Nestlé that also won Gold in the Food Trade and Industry category.

Just like in previous years, pursuing its social responsibility policy, Sapo donated the total amount received with the applications, around €11,500 to Salvador Association, a charity that promotes the interests and rights of people with mobility impairments.

The Village Fair spirit contaminated all those present who tried their luck with the raffle tickets, the plush toy machine, fortune telling as well as the tasting of the acclaimed donuts and hotdogs.
