Portugal Telecom is going to extend its offer of HD (High Definition) content. Meo and Sci-Fi Channel will make available the High Definition version of this entertainment channel from NBC Universal. This channel will be a Meo exclusive for both IPTV and Satellite customers.

The HD Sci-Fi Channel will become part of the “Series and Family” package of the IPTV service (which may be subscribed without additional cost as it is associated with the base package), and of Meo Total. In the Satellite offer, the channel will be part of the Meo Total package. It will have a programming grid similar to the standard channel. On the launch day of the HD broadcasting, highlight will go to “Flash Gordon” and “American Gothic” TV series. The Sci-Fi Channel is dedicated to science fiction and to the paranormal, presenting TV shows such as “Knight Rider”, “Mutant X“, “Andromeda” or “Painkiller Joe”, which can be watched with high image quality as of 27 April.

Meo was the first Portuguese operator to include High Definition channels in its offer, providing HD Ready MeoBoxes since its launch. As of 27 April, there will be seven HD channels – Eurosport HD, AXN HD, Sci-Fi HD, National Geographic HD, Luxe TV HD, Sport TV HD and Brava HDTV – apart from the wide selection of HD movies and titles from the VideoClub.

Meo and Sci-Fi Channel bring “Kitt” to Portugal

To celebrate the launch of the new channel in Portugal, Meo and the Sci-Fi Channel will bring the famous “Kitt”, the legendary car of the “Knight Rider”, the North-American TV series. The Ford Mustang used in the new series will be on display between 16 and 21 April at the Colombo shopping centre in Lisbon.

Meo customers will be entitled to participate in an exclusive pastime, take a photo with “Kitt” and enter a draw for an Ipod Touch (regulations available at http://www.meo.pt/).

MEO/Sci-Fi campaign received a Gold EMEA Promax Award

The Sci-Fi Channel is available for Meo customers since December 2008. Its presentation in Portugal counted on a strong advertising campaign that received a Gold EMEA Promax Award, awarded by the Promax/BDA Organisation for the Best Poster or Outdoor Campaign Action. This communication initiative was carried out by Sci-Fi/Meo at the stairs of the Lisbon underground stations.  It is the first GOLD Promax Award ever won by a pay-tv channel in Portugal in association with a TV operator, Meo.
