New Code of Conduct for social networks
Thursday, November 04, 2010
Portugal Telecom just made available a Code of Conduct to regulate the conduct of its employees on social networks.

The importance of the participation in social networks induced PT to make available a Code of Conduct for such media, which is a complement to the Code of Ethics in force at the company, stipulating general principles of behaviour and defining a number of fundamental ethical values.

Social networks have become prevalent as means of online interaction, for their facility in terms of edition and information sharing in different formats, namely text, image, video or even other contents through the use of links.
Initially used as spaces of search and communication with friends, they rapidly expanded their scope to more elaborate forms of communication, taking advantage of their configuration as contact networks.

These networks enable to follow  the news, find out what is thought or said about certain issues, create or share contents, help other people participating in problem resolution, divulge positive information of entertaining or social nature, share experiences and promote products or services

PT recognizes the importance of these new tools in communication and believes that its employees can and should use social networks to underpin the advantages of products and services of the company, promoting their divulgation and  renown, in a responsible and sensible way.

Therefore, it adopted its own policy for such media in order to ensure the protection of its companies and to guide employees on such channels. In accordance with its transparency, authenticity an openness culture, PT provided a Code of Conduct for social networks, as an incentive to contact among employees, suppliers and customers through such channels.
