The finalists of the PT Literature Prize have already been disclosed

The ten finalists of the 8th edition of the PT Literature Prize in Portuguese Language were announced yesterday in São Paulo. “Caim” by José Saramago is among the nominees.

The ten finalists of the 8th edition of the Portugal Telecom Literature Prize in Portuguese Language 2010 were announced yesterday in São Paulo. “Caim” by José Saramago and “Avó Dezanove e o segredo do soviético” by Angolan author Ondjaki are among the nominees. The three winning works will be disclosed on the next 8 November.

In Brazilian prose, Carlos de Brito Melo with his first romance “A passagem tensa dos corpos” is side by side with names well favoured by the critics and the public, such as Chico Buarque with “Leite Derramado”, Bernardo Carvalho with “O filho da mãe” and Rodrigo Lacerda with “Outra vida”. Pornopopéia” by Reinaldo Moraes and “Olhos secos” by Bernardo Ajzemberg complete the Brazilian list of finalists.

Poetry is represented by names of 20th century Brazilian panorama such as Armando Freitas Filho author of “Lar” and Carlito Azevedo, author of “Monograma”.

The jury of the last phase, who will disclose the three winning works on 8 November, was also presented yesterday. The winner will receive Real 100,000 (€ 45,700), the second prize will amount to Real 35,000 (€ 15,900) and the third prize Real 15,000 (€ 6,800).

The 8th edition of the Literature Prize was promoted by Portugal Telecom once again to contribute to maintaining the Portuguese language dynamic and relevant. This initiative comprises works in the domains of romance, tale, poetry, chronicle, dramaturgy and autobiography, written in Portuguese language and published in Brazil during 2009.

It is worth recollecting that in the 2009 edition, Brazilian author Nuno Ramos, author of “Ó”, was the big winner. “Acenos e Afagos”, a work by João Gilberto Noll got the second prize, and "A Arte de Produzir Efeito sem Causa” by Lourenço Mutarelli got the third prize.
