It is worth recollecting that this initiative was launched on 15 January 2010 to aid the victims of the catastrophe in Haiti.
Numbers 61906 for text messages, and 706 206 206 for telephone calls are still active. Each text message sent represents 60 cents (+VAT) donated to AMI’s mission in Haiti; calls made to the wireline number 760 206 206 represent 60 cents (+VAT) donated to AMI, Red Cross and Médicos do Mundo, missionary institutions in Haiti.
Pleased with the result of the campaign up to this moment, Fernando Nobre, AMI chairman, thanks for the contribution of PT/TMN and of the participating customers in favour of the victims of the Haiti earthquake. “As it is well-known, AMI is present from the very first hour on the devastation scene, with expatriated medical teams delivering humanitarian help. The initiative from PT/TMN confirms what I have been repeating for years, that is: only with the combined action of the three pillars of human society (State, Economy and Civil Society) is it possible to respond fully to the great challenges of our time. I am thus most pleased with the participation of PT/TMN side by side with AMI”, says its chairman.
According to Luís Barbosa, chairman of the Portuguese Red Cross (CVP), “CVP thanks with profound humanitarian spirit all the help received in favour of the Haiti earthquake victims. The Portuguese Red Cross acts before emergency scenarios, as a new emergency is about to occur at this moment in Haiti, when this territory will have to face the beginning of the season of rains and storms.
“The Médicos do Mundo charity praises PT’s social responsibility spirit that made possible our humanitarian mission in Haiti, with this solidary action in favour of the Haiti earthquake victims. This campaign in partnership with PT enabled this charity to raise funds to bring one of our teams to the field, composed of five people (one manager, one doctor, one nurse, and two technicians from the Dog Training Association for Search and Rescue), in Port-au-Prince at this moment ensuring healthcare to the victims”, explains Antóno Andrade, vice-chairman of Médicos do Mundo.
PT and TMN continue to challenge their customers to sign up for this campaign, in accordance with the spirit of social responsibility that moves the entire international community since the occurrence of the catastrophe in Haiti. PT/TMN customers signing up for this campaign will be contributing to multiply the amount already obtained to help Haitians rebuild their lives and their country.
