Monday, November 22, 2010
PT implemented the telecommunications system – fixed and mobile voice, broadband internet - of the NATO Summit and installed the largest virtual telephone infra-structure ever in Portugal.
Based on IP-technology, this infra-structure supported 1,300 telephone lines for all participants, including the media from the different countries, which were present on 19 and 20 November at the Lisbon International Fair, Parque das Nações. In terms of broadband internet access, circa 2,500 points were served by a secure 10-Gigabps network, with fully redundant equipment and circuits, in order to ensure communications security and continuity. Each user had a 100 Mbps network connection (for uploads and downloads) available and the mobile network, TMN, was reinforced to support circa 20,000 users in that area.
Apart from the FIL premises, PT also took care of the services of support for the foreign delegations that came to Portugal, having been installed circa 600 telecommunications services and reinforced the TMN network in all strategic locations such as hotels, embassies and airports.
All technicians from Portugal Telecom who conceived, designed, installed and maintained all services, contributed to the success of this operation. There was a permanent team of 50 technicians at the location, from a total of 200 technicians who were part of this prevention team, not only at Parque das Nações but also at the Network Supervision and Management Centre at Picoas in Lisbon.
