Tuesday, September 14, 2010
The city of Peniche will receive the Rip Curl Pro Portugal this year once again, sponsored by TMN. The eighth event of the ASP World Tour will be held from 7 to 18 October.

Featuring heights of up to 5 metres, supertubes is a powerful wave, which is fed by long and powerful swells coming from the Atlantic Ocean.

The reason for the organisation of the Rip Curl Pro Portugal Powered by TMN is expressed in the words of Francisco Spínola, Marketing Manager of Rip Curl Portugal: “There are a few really extraordinary point breaks and incredible waves along the coastline. We are more motivated than ever to organize the ASP World Tour in Peniche once again, especially in terms of Supertubes. It is a world-class wave, and certainly one of the best beach breaks in the world”.

Featuring heights of up to 5 metres, Supertubes is a powerful wave, which is fed by long and deep swells coming from the Atlantic Ocean. It has been called the “European pipeline” given its similarity to the Hawaiian wave Banzai Pipeline.

The success of the event held last year is translated through the Event of the Year 2009 Prize, awarded by Portugal’s Tourism Office and Deloitte. More than 100,000 people watched the competition in 2009 livecast via television, radio and internet.

It is worth recollecting that last year Portugal ensured the live broadcast via the official website of the event. 6 million views were registered then, a value representing 1.5 million users, with an average time per IP of circa 41 minutes.

At the Rip Curl Pro Search 2009, TMN was the main sponsor of the Men’s and Women’s Trials and the presenting sponsor of the Expression Session, a competition of daring manoeuvres held before the Men’s final. The prize was delivered to Mick Fanning, word champion of 2009.

The Rip Pro Portugal Powered by TMN will also be sponsored by Portugal’s Tourism Office, Portugal’s Sports Institute and the Municipality of Peniche. Apart from TMN’s sponsorship, brands such as Buondi, PowerBalance, MEO, ANA Airports and RTP TV will also sponsor this event.
