Last Saturday, Camões Square filled up with surfers in the scope of an action promoted by TMN, Surf Mob, in which it challenged the surf community and fans, by means of the social networks, to show up at Camões Square in Lisbon dressed with a wetsuit and carrying a surfboard under the arm.  A fully innovative initiative, related to TMN’s support for the Rip Curl Pro Portugal Powered by TMN event.

In 2010, TMN continued its strategy of support for national and international surf, by sponsoring the Rip Curl Pro Portugal Powered by TMN, in the scope of which TMN will be present in one of the 10 events of the ASP World Tour – WT Men and WT Women. It is worth recollecting that in October 2009, TMN was present at the Rip Curl Pro Search, the 9th event of the ASP World 2009, which took place for the first time in Portugal, on the beaches of Peniche.

“We wanted to start to talk about an event whose date is approaching, which is the Rip Curl Pro Portugal Powered by TMN. It is an event of the world championship which will take place next October, and the idea was to be the starting kick for that event. (…) TMN, as a big sponsor of this discipline, could not help being present too”, explains Isabel Corte Real, Sponsorships and Events, TMN.

In the scope of this support, TMN is supporting several initiatives, among which Surf Mob, an innovative action in Portugal whose aim was to gather the surf community and fans in the same location. This way, who went to Camões Square last Saturday, September 25th, wearing a wetsuit and carrying a surfboard under the arm won an official t-shirt of the event – Rip Curl – and entered a draw for official autographed surfboards of Mick Fanning and Tiago ‘Saca’ Pires.

Under the motto ‘Warm up for Rip Curl Pro’, the group of participants was challenges to search in that location two miniature surfboards, which were later switched for the official surfboards of Mick Fanning and Tiago Pires.

According to Inês Vaz Pinto, this initiative “went very well. I won my surfboard, so I think that it went very well for me”. Inês Pinto was one of the challenge winners as she found a miniature surfboard, which she switched for the official surfboard of Tiago ‘Saca’ Pires.

According to João Filipe Garcia, winner of the official Mick Fanning surfboard, the afternoon was a bit troublesome. I started to feel a bit nervous as I had searched everywhere. I was beginning to search the benches for the second time and then I came back and I searched a bit more carefully on the top of the benches and that’s when I found the surfboard”.

It was an entertaining afternoon fo these participants who brought the surfing spirit to this Lisbon square. Experience also this spirit at the mythic city of Peniche from 7 to 18 October during the Rip Curl Pro Portugal Powered by TMN.

According to Isabel Corte Real, this initiative “proves the strength of the social networks as this event was only communicated through Facebook, Twitter and a few blogs”.
